Angry Michael Schumacher fans have bombarded a German magazine with complaints after they published a picture of the star smiling together with his wife Corinna under the headline "awake".

But fans who rushed to buy the women's magazine Die Aktuelle discovered it was simply full of stories of people who had awoken after a coma, and was nothing to do with the fact that the star himself was now awake.

German publisher of the magazine, the Gong-Verlag, have so far declined to comment on the outrage and allegations that it was simply trying to cash in on the tragedy.

The outrage at the magazine's front page follows reports that wife Corinna, 45, is installing a medical suite costing 10 million GBP in their family home near Lake Geneva in Switzerland, so her husband can be cared for at home instead of the hospital.

The family currently make a 150-mile round trip from their Swiss home every day to visit 45-year-old Schumacher where he is being treated in the Grenoble University Hospital in France.

They have been told by doctors that the F1 racing star is unlikely to wake up from his medically induced coma, which he was put in three months ago to reduce brain swelling following a skiing accident in the Alps where he hit his head on a boulder.
