Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη ξεπέρασε με μεγάλη ανατροπή το εμπόδιο της Ντάνιελ Κόλινς, επιβλήθηκε με 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 και προκρίθηκε στον πρώτο τελικό WTA της καριέρας της! Όπως φυσιολογικό η 23χρονη Ελληνίδα τενίστρια έζησε με μεγάλο πάθος και ένταση το παιχνίδι, ενώ στο τέλος πανηγύρισε με την ψυχή της τη μεγάλη της νίκη.

Μετά από σχεδόν δέκα χρόνια η Σάκκαρη θα εκπροσωπήσει την Ελλάδα σε έναν τελικό με την Μιχαέλα Μπουζαρνέσκου να είναι η αντίπαλος της (μεσάνυχτα Κυριακής 06/08). Η Ρουμάνα επιβλήθηκε στον άλλο ημιτελικό με 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 επί της Ελιζέ Μέρτενς.
