Έναν χρόνο από την αιματηρή βομβιστική επίθεση, η Βοστώνη έτρεξε και πάλι, με τους Αμερικανούς να παίρνουν μάλιστα για πρώτη φορά χρυσό μετάλλιο μετά το 1983.
Πέρυσι, οι εκρηκτικοί μηχανισμοί που είχαν τοποθετηθεί στην περιοχή του τερματισμού αφαίρεσαν τη ζωή από τρεις ανθρώπους, με τη Βοστώνη όμως να στέκεται και πάλι στα πόδια της και να στέλνει το μήνυμα πως η αγάπη για τη ζωή και τον αθλητισμό θριαμβεύει πάντα.
Έτσι, πραγματοποιήθηκε τη Δευτέρα η 118η έκδοση του μαραθωνίου της Βοστώνης, με 36.000 άτομα συνολικά να παίρνουν μέρος και τη νίκη στους άνδρες να παίρνει ο Αμερικανός Μεμπ Κεφλετζίγκι με χρόνο 2 ώρες 8 λεπτά και 36 δευτερόλεπτα, ο οποίος έγινε ο πρώτος Αμερικανός που ανέβηκε στην ψηλότερη θέση του βάθρου στο συγκεκριμένο τουρνουά μετά από 31 χρόνια!

Όσον αφορά δε στις γυναίκες, εκείνη που έκοψε πρώτη το νήμα ήταν η Ρίτα Γέπτοο που διένυσε την απόσταση σε 2 ώρες 18 λεπτά και 57 δευτερόλεπτα.
