Με μία λιτή της ανακοίνωση η F1 ανακοίνωσε το τέλος των Grid girls από τους αγώνες της σεζόν και το Sport24.gr τα αποχαιρετά όπως τους αξίζει.
Η είδηση είχε γίνει γνωστή εδώ και καιρό. Η Liberty Media, εταιρία που τρέχει πια τα δικαιώματα της F1, δεν ήθελε να άλλο τα Grid girls που κοσμούσαν κάθε αγώνα και έτσι αποφάσισε να τους δώσει ένα τέλος.
Με αυτόν τον τρόπο η εταιρία θέλησε να δώσει ένα τέλος στον πόλεμο που δεχόταν η F1 από φεμινιστικές οργανώσεις για σεξιστική συμπεριφορά.
Μεταξύ άλλων στην ανακοίνωση της η Liberty αναφέρει: "Η Formula 1 θεωρεί τον χρόνο που περνούν οι ομάδες και οι οδηγοί στο γκριντ πριν από έναν αγώνα ως μια γιορτή, όπου οι επισκέπτες και διάφοροι καλλιτέχνες μπορούν να προσθέσουν στη λάμψη και το θέαμα του γκραν πρι, δίνοντας τη δυνατότητα σε αυτούς που προωθούν τον αγώνα και σε συνεργάτες να παρουσιάσουν τις χώρες και τα προϊόντα τους".
Από την πλευρά του, ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος για τις εμπορικές λειτουργίες στη Formula 1, Σον Μπράτσιζ, δήλωσε: "Τον τελευταίο χρόνο κοιτάξαμε αρκετούς τομείς, στους οποίους αισθανθήκαμε ότι χρειαζόταν αναβάθμιση, προκειμένου να συμβαδίζουν περισσότερο με το όραμά μας γι' αυτό το σπουδαίο σπορ. Ενώ η πρακτική της χρησιμοποίησης "grid girls" αποτελούσε βασικό στοιχείο των γκραν πρι της Φόρμουλα Ένα για δεκαετίες, αισθανόμαστε ότι αυτό το έθιμο δεν συμφωνεί με τις αξίες της εταιρείας μας και σαφώς έρχεται σε αντίθεση με τα σύγχρονα κοινωνικά πρότυπα. Δεν πιστεύουμε ότι αυτή η πρακτική είναι κατάλληλη ή σχετική με τη Φόρμουλα Ένα και τους φίλους της, παλιούς και νέους, σε όλο τον κόσμο".
